Engines

The Audi 80 car is set in motion by engines of various designs and number of cylinders. The palette stretches from 4-to 6-cylinder motors. The number of vpryskovy systems is even more. It is necessary to add two more essentially various diesel engines to the petrol engines described in this management. So in variety the shortcoming is not present, as the following table proves.

Signs of engines

The 4-cylinder engine in a section

1 – camshaft;
2 – hydraulic pushers;
3 – tension roller;
4 – piston;
5 – gear belt;
6 – intermediate shaft;
7 – a pulley on cranked to a shaft;

8 – pump of cooling liquid;
9 – cover of a head of the block of cylinders;
10 – spark plug of the fourth cylinder;
11 – ignition distributor;
12 – rod;
13 – oil pump.

This motor which is initially designed for Audi 80 is used also to Audi 100 and to the folksvagenovsky models Golf, Jetta, Passat. Its major constructive signs: the 4-cylinder engine with the top arrangement of a camshaft. The drive of valves is carried out by means of hydraulic dish-shaped pushers. The intermediate shaft gives the oil pump and the distributor of ignition. The drive of distributive and intermediate shaft is carried out by means of a gear belt.

The 5-cylinder engine in a section

1 – piston;
2 – valve;
3 – hydraulic pushers;
4 – gear pulley of a belt of a camshaft;
5 – camshaft;
6 – head of the block of cylinders;
7 – block of cylinders of the engine;

8 – oil pallet;
9 – cranked shaft;
10 – inlet tube of the oil pump;
11 – oil pump;
12 – gear pulley of a belt of a cranked shaft;
13 – a pulley of klinoremenny transfer with a damper on cranked to a shaft.

The main constructive signs of the 4-cylinder engine correspond also to the 5-cylinder engine presented for the first time in 1976 on Audi 100. It is enough to call only two common features – this engine is also supplied with a gear belt for the drive of a camshaft and the pump of cooling liquid, and in this engine for reduction of valves dish-shaped hydraulic pushers are used.

The design of a cranked shaft of the 5-cylinder engine is especially interesting: shatunny necks of a cranked shaft are at an angle in 72 ° on the relation to each other, for each cylinder on a shaft stand on two counterbalances. Further: specially organized imbalance of a flywheel and also a damper on its forward end serve for absorption of tortional fluctuations.

The 6-cylinder engine in a section

1 – inlet gas pipeline;
2 – package of coils of ignition;
3 – gear belt;
4 – poliklinovy belt;
5 – a pulley with a damper on cranked to a shaft;
6 – oil pump
7 – inlet tube of the oil pump;

8 – cranked shaft;
9 – rod;
10 – piston;
11 – hydraulic pushers;
12 – valve;
13 – camshaft;

Newly Audi 100 developed to representation of the fourth generation in 1991 the 6-cylinder V-shaped engine represents very compact unit which is specially created for a longitudinal arrangement. Two camshafts of the top arrangement put in action by gear belts operate valves by means of dish-shaped pushers. In space between heads of cylinders the final gas pipeline is placed.

The 2,8-liter version is equipped with the inlet gas pipeline with a changeable length of a path which changes the active length of inlet channels depending on rotation frequency range. Thus in all ranges of frequencies of rotation the optimum torque of the engine is reached. It is worth mentioning also system of ignition without distributor which is in more detail described in the head System of ignition.
